Beginnings
It all began with a simple vision: growing grapes in a landscape that inspires. Dr. Robert Gross and his wife Corrine felt so strongly about this vision that they committed completely, despite thriving careers in medicine and social work and a growing family. The beauty of the Coastal Range to the West and the deep connection to the soil they worked each day instilled a farmer’s appreciation for the Willamette Valley and the labor is takes to grow their fruit.
First they were strictly growers, selling their Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes in the Old Vines Vineyard, as it came to be called. Then in 1987, the family produced a Pinot Noir as their first
label from the estate vineyard. Now Cooper Mountain Vineyards produces 7 varietals under 3 labels.
From the beginning, Cooper Mountain embraced holistic farming practices and became a leader in the winemaking industry for organic and biodynamic production. The notion of restoring the land that produces the crops made perfect sense. We take and we give back. In 1995 Cooper Mountain was certified organic by Oregon Tilth and in 1999 earned biodynamic certification be Demeter, the largest international certification organization.
Our Family
Family is the core of our identity. It is the heartbeat of our business. Cooper Mountain begins with one family and continues to tell the tale with our second generation and our extended winemaking family. Our passion for winemaking keeps us grounded and grateful for our four decades in the Willamette Valley.
The Innovator, Bob Gross
The Connector, Barbara Gross
Born in NYC, Bob and his wife travelled west in 1976 with their 3 children in tow. His love of Pinot Noir landed them in Oregon. Bob lives on one of the vineyard sites and still splits his time between a natural medicine practice and Cooper Mountain. His innovative vision continues to guide his dedicated team.
From an early age Barbara Gross walked the rows of Pinot Noir on the family estate. Post university she joined the family business and never looked back. Currently she serves at the helm as Operations Director of Cooper Mountain and has held multiple board seats in the valley. She’s die-hard committed to a future for winemaking and winegrowing in the Willamette Valley. bgross@coopermountainwine.com
The Poet, Gilles de Domingo
The Optimist, Gerry Sanchez
Gilles de Domingo began his winemaking career at his family’s estate in Bordeaux. After receiving a degree in Viticulture he travelled the world in pursuit of fine wine. Gilles worked in wineries in New Zealand, Australia, South Africa before finding Oregon. He’s been part of the Cooper Mountain family since 2004. gilles@coopermountainwine.com
For more than three decades, Gerry Sanchez has watched over and tended to the vines on Cooper Mountain. A veteran of the valley, Gerry keeps the acres running while managing oversight of the organic and biodynamic production. Gerry and his team feel all of the seasons in the unique climate of the Northwest.

Charles Hesson, Director of Hospitality
Charles spent summers on a Texas farm, marveling at fruit preservation in clay. With a 25-year restaurant career, he shifted to wineries, diving deeper into wine knowledge. His love for wine arises from its history, agricultural origins, and the artistry and chemistry of winemaking. Charles is a seasoned veteran in the Oregon wine industry, with a rich background in hospitality and a deep understanding of the winemaking process.

Matthew Grabinski, Tasting Room Manager
Matthew moved around the country often during his youth, but called Arizona home for 17 years. It was in his birth state of California while he was pursuing a career in biotech that one night he met a Sommelier who introduced him to the world of wine. Soon thereafter he traded in his lab job for a consumer facing wine career. A move to Oregon later and Matthew joined Cooper Mountain Vineyards to further his knowledge and passion of wine.

Angelina Pike-Fey, Wine Club Manager
Angelina is no stranger to the Oregon wine industry, she has shaped it growth for decades. Angelina has been at our sister property Arborbrook since it’s inception. As a innovator and pioneer of the Oregon wine story she joins us as Wine Club Manager in her next chapter at Arborbrook and Cooper Mountain. Angelina and her husband own and operate Fey Longhorn Farms in neighboring Yamhill, Oregon. Angelina enjoys cooking and creating wine pairings with our wines.

Sara Sacco, Tasting Room Lead
Sara grew up in the Willamette Valley where she quickly developed a love and gratitude for the abundance of the colorful and vast agriculture and viticulture scenes Oregon has to offer. Sara obtained her degree in communication with a focus on economics from Portland State University. She happily started her career at Cooper Mountain where she can continue to explore, share and enjoy the ancient art of winemaking.
